The Bruno Mathsson Prize, established in 1984, stands as the largest design prize in the Nordic region. This year marked its 40th anniversary, celebrated through an extraordinary exhibition that brought together decades of Scandinavian design excellence. The event paid tribute to Mathsson’s forward-thinking legacy and his vision of creating a brighter future through innovation.

Woodwerk: A Chair Full of Progress
Featured in the exhibition was Woodwerk, a chair designed by Chris Martin. The design has its origins in an idea from 30 years ago, which has been refined over time with new techniques and insights. Switching from laminated to solid wood during production made the chair both stronger and more beautiful, showcasing the power of blending craftsmanship with technology.
Woodwerk was launched in September 2024.

A gathering of creative minds
The exhibition brought together some of the most influential Nordic designers of the past four decades. Workshops led by this year’s winners — Fredrik Paulsen, Jenny Nordberg, and Finn Ahlgren — created a space for sharing ideas and exploring new approaches. It was a great opportunity for designers to connect and exchange ideas.

"Being in Värnamo and seeing Mathsson’s home and studio is very inspiring. He was an innovator in all aspects, being a jogger before jogging really became a thing, building a special bed for sleeping outside in the fresh air. I’d like to adopt that kind of thinking to both design and life!"
