Massproductions’ celebrated Crown Collection, known for its significant sharp edges is now released in a new heavy yet strikingly soft edition, upholstered in Raf Simons fabric Silas from Kvadrat. jUne 3 - 2021 Words by Hannah Eklund The fabric Silas is created as part of ongoing collaboration with Danish fabric producer Kvadrat and fashion designer Raf Simons with the aim to create unusual textures from natural materials.  The Crown Armchair and Easy Chair is cleverly constructed, with a playful element to it. It’s backrests are perched on the armrests, seemingly unsupported but in fact relying on a strong, concealed steel joint. Crown’s distinct design gives it open transparent surfaces, and creates new expressions depending on its placement in the room. This comfortable chair suits just as well around the desk or conference table, as the dining table. "For this year’s collection, I was very interested in experimenting with woven versions of some of the traditional materials and techniques used in haute couture such as furs and knits." Said Simons in an interview with Dezeen. The soft, voluminous Silas fabric, made from new wool and nylon, is created through a complex finishing process. The fabric has a velvet-like texture that is repeatedly unravelled and beaten, which makes it swell and resume its shape, and then steam-treated. The exceptional volume and softness of Silas is the result of a complex finishing process. The original velvet structure of the textile is subjected to six days where the hair is repeatedly unraveled and beaten to make it swell and resume its shape. The whole procedure can also leads to variations in pile height. Finally it has a steam treatment which makes the surface extremely soft and voluminous as well to the richness and depth of colour.

THE STORY OF ALBERT

The story of Albert May 18 - 2021 Words by Hannah Eklund If you can't come to the pub,  let the pub come to you! We asked Massproductions's Designer in Chief, Chris Martin, to share the story behind the Albert Collection. If you can't come to the pub, let the pub come to you! We asked Massproductions's Designer in chief, Chris Martin, to share the story behind the Albert Collection. How would you describe Albert to someone who’s never seen it? It's like a traditional English pub bar stool that has had a makeover by a competent woodworker who’s averse to decoration. How would you describe the pub culture like in Stockholm? Sometimes it feels like you are in a Disneyland version of the UK, but if you know where to go you can find somewhere pretty authentic. The concept of “The Pub”, a cosy home from home is a cherished space and we are naturally drawn to creating and enjoying them. Have you ever fallen off an Albert Barstool? No, its impossible to fall off something as rock solid as an Albert. What makes a good barstool? Besides performing its basic function, it should make a contribution to the atmosphere of the room. "A LOT OF OUR DESIGN STARTED OUT AT THE PUB. ME AND MAGNUS FIND IT A GOOD PLACE TO SIT DOWN OVER A PINT TO DISCUSS THE COMPANY, OUR PRODUCTS AND DESIGNS. AFTER A WHILE WE STARTED TO NOTICE THE PUB BAR STOOL, I GUESS WE SPENT SO MUCH TIME WITH IT IN FRONT OF US AND STARTED TO APPRECIATE SOME OF ITS CHARACTERISTICS."  If you had to pick one item from the Albert collection, which one would you pick?  The low Albert in walnut stained beech on a well-used Axminster carpet. Your favorite pub in Stockholm? I like the Halfway Inn at Mariatorget – wall to wall carpeting gives it the edge! The Albert family is quite big, Albert stool in different heights and bench in two lengths. Can you imagine expanding the collection in the near future? I think we have the seating covered but I have thought about adding some small tables to the collection. "It's impossible to fall off something as rock solid as an Albert." Chris Martin on Instagram

June 10 - 2021 Words by Hannah Eklund How do you start your day? Coffee and more coffee. I'm one of those people who love to work in my pyjamas, I don't think I'm fully awake until after lunch to be honest.  How do you furnish your home in a sustainable way? I buy high quality or secondhand. I've had pretty much the same style (beige and white) so when I find something I love I try to take care of it so it can last forever.     What is your favorite place in Stockholm? (could be a restaurant, café, store, museum etc) I love the small harbour where  we live in Gustavsberg. The seasons are so beautiful here and when you walk around people greet each other which is really nice. "I just love the soft shape of the Dandy collection. Is spacious but doesn't take up too much space at the same time." When are you the most inspired? In the evenings quite late at night. Love staying up to work on creative projects or when I'm painting. But most times I get my ideas when I'm driving.  What do you like about our Dandy Collection? I just love the soft shape of the Dandy collection. Is spacious but doesn't take up too much space at the same time. The shape is also great for our apartment that has all these sharp edges, it gives it a softer more organic feel.  Emma Elwin on instagram

May 11 - 2021 Words by Hannah Eklund How did the idea to Hobnob come up? After years in a very cold fashion industry we wanted to create a community where fashion could be smart and fun again. When we started talking about it, we didn’t know that our ideas would end up in us creating Hobnob though. One can really say it was destiny who brought us together and gave birth to a brand new creative path in our lives.  Do you dare to share a hidden gem in Sweden, to save the Swedish summer vacation? It’s not a gem exactly but to eat everything outside! We love to turn every meal into a picnic. In that way, a regular breakfast feels exotic.  Dandy 4 Seater Sofa and Armchair is sold as a limited edition. The sofa is upholstered in the fabrics Vidar and Pilot, both designed by Raf Simons for Kvadrat. Tell us about the colour and fabric choice of the Dandy Collection? The Dandy is such an iconic piece that really gives a room depth which we love. It creates a room within the room. When we started sourcing fabric for our version of the Dandy we though of it as an outfit. We wanted the fabrics and colors to contrast. The rough boucle against the more settle one almost gives the fabrics a three dimensional feeling. The result is really a piece and has proved itself to be a conversation starter. To be able to create our own space together with friend Gustaf Westman has really been a dream come true. When we first started talking about opening up our own office, without any desks and ergonomic chairs we though about it as something exciting in a long distanced future. But when the pandemic hit hard and all travels we had planned were cancelled we though, when are we ever gonna have a time in our work lives again where the whole world is on paus? So we started to dream big. After countless hours of paint, sweat and even a few tears (most of them happy though) we have our own space which we have created all the way from idea to reality. We are so proud. Albert Bar Stools at Hobnob's Journal office "Interior are made to last, to be worn out, to be both useful and look good. Fashion, not as much always." You are most into fashion but also furniture and design, what do you think is the biggest difference between the fashion and design industry and how do you think it has changed during the last years? The biggest difference is really the speed. The fashion industry moves so fast it almost can’t keep up with its own pace whilst the furniture design industry seems much more conscious. Since we don’t talk as much about trends when it comes to furniture design I think people are more keen to listen to their own personal style when decoration a home and make it personal rather than with fashion where everybody tends to look the same. Hard to say how that’s gonna evolve though now that interior is taking fashions place as most coveted on instagram. But in general we would like fashion to look more to interior. OUTDOOR FURNITURE IN NEW PATINAED COPPER ROOF GREEN

OILCLOTH GREEN March 5 - 2021 Written by Sanna Fehrman Patinaed copper roofs and the white-green leaves of the willow tree were the inspiration when Massproductions expanded its outdoor furniture range in a new light green shade. Now the popular Tio Collection and the Roadie bench are now presented in a new colour named “Oilcloth Green”. Patinaed copper roofs and the white-green leaves of the willow tree were the inspiration when Massproductions expanded its outdoor furniture range in a new light green shade. Now the popular Tio Collection and the Roadie bench are now presented in a new colour named “Oilcloth Green”. "For us, it is important that an outdoor piece of furniture can be in nature without creating too much visual clutter. It is a challenge that requires a certain fingertip feeling. A colour that in the indoor environment can appear pale, becomes very strong in full daylight amongst nature’s slightly duller colour scale" - Magnus Elebäck CEO & Co-founder The term “oilcloth” comes from the English term for the fabric that was originally used for the fisherman’s sou’wester waterproof hat and durable tarpaulins. A coarse canvas fabric is treated with boiled linseed oil to give water-repellent properties, a characteristic that also suits outdoor furniture that must withstand the elements’ impact all year round. As before, the new paint also consists of a UV-resistant powder coating developed for house facades, with extreme resistance to both sun and moisture The term “oilcloth” comes from the English term for the fabric that was originally used for the fisherman’s sou’wester waterproof hat and durable tarpaulins.
