THE COLOUR OF MADNESS

Colour of madness March 31 - 2020 Written by Sanna Fehrman Vincent van Gogh's mysterious obsession with yellow, madness and narcissus flowers inspired Massproductions, when launching their outdoor furniture range in a new sun-bleached yellow colour. Vincent van Gogh's mysterious obsession with yellow, madness and narcissus flowers inspired Massproductions, when launching their outdoor furniture range in a new sun-bleached yellow colour. Massproductions now presents their collections Tio, Jig Mesh, Odette Table and the new outdoor sofa Roadie, all designed by Chris Martin, in the new March Yellow. The paint consists of a UV-resistant powder coat, suitable for house facades, with extreme resistance to both sun and water. "Outdoor environments differ from indoor environments in so many ways. Obviously, high demands are put on the material to withstand the effects of nature. But you also have different spaces to work with, everything from a park to a restaurant or a balcony. March Yellow is adding a new sense of spring to our colour range, it fits just as well in nature as in any urban environment", says Magnus Elebäck, CEO and co-founder of Massproductions. When photographing the new collection, Massproductions chose to collaborate with the artist and set designer Martin Bergström. The furniture takes place in an overgrown garden that evokes childhood memories, a nostalgic borderland between dream and reality. "The vision was to create a springlike feeling in a controlled environment, an exposed wild grown exotic glade where the product, rather than the environment it stands in, comes into focus", concludes Magnus Elebäck "Yellow is the colour of madness, perhaps inspired by Vincent van Gogh, and his obsession with yellow. In England we say "Mad as a March hare", as hares tend to behave erratically in March. But now, we take away the madness and keep only the good things about yellow -  warmth and hope." - Chris Martin, Designer in Chief https://player.vimeo.com/external/402848713.hd.mp4?s=3ae4bfe1a0200c306bfdcead571c0fc87978bc5e&profile_id=174

MAGNUS ELEBÄCK AND CHRIS MARTIN WIN DESIGN PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR AWARD

During the Möbelriksdagen 2020 hosted by Interior Cluster Sweden in Växjö, Sweden, Massproductions co-founders were awarded Årets Designpersonligheter (Design Personality of the Year). Motivation of the Jury: “When two designers with different backgrounds started collaborating 20 years ago, the vision was innovative design focusing on the interaction between product and environment. The result was a modern, functional and elegant design profile that fulfilled their idea and vision in every detail. The promise of quality and function was quickly received by a design-interested crowd. After ten years, the duo launched their own design brand and have produced several award-winning products. Today, they are represented at hundreds of retailers, used by famous architects all over the world, and contribute greatly to putting Swedish design and manufacturing on the international map!”

But when it comes to developing ideas, we believe it’s better to be slow. Because being slow is not necessarily a bad thing. At Massproductions we take pride in thinking twice before releasing a new piece of furniture onto the market. Even if that means that we develop only a few products every year. The idea behind many of our furniture have been developed over many years. Simply, because then you get the best design, and the slow build up also gives you the best satisfaction. By taking our time, we can make sure that we produce our furniture in the best material and the most energy-efficient way possible and create designs that withstand the test of time.
