TAKE ME THERE - STENNÄS SUMMER HOUSE

Take Me There - Stennäs summer house, 1937 This house is all about comfort, functionality, and simplicity, with one side against a rugged cliff and the other side facing the bay. This house is all about comfort, functionality, and simplicity, with one side against a rugged cliff and the other side facing the bay. The Swedish architect Gunnar Asplund, 1885-1940, is known for his significant contributions to modernist architecture. He played an important role in shaping the architectural landscape of Sweden, and had a big impact on the development of the Stockholm International Exhibition (1930). Gunnar Asplund is most celebrated for his iconic works, The Woodland Crematorium and the Stockholm Public Library. The house has white painted, horizontally arranged wooden panels with a slim design, designed by Asplund. The panels go all the way down to the ground, beyond the base of the house. Asplund's idea was for the house to "emerge from the ground." The gable roofs are covered with wooden shingles. Reading on the dock, by the bay The outdoor toilet Spot Pouf by the fireplace The summer house is made up of two parts that together are 130 square meters. The northern part has a long shape and contains the kitchen on the top floor, followed by two small bedrooms, and finally a dining room. Starting at the front door from the wooden deck, you enter the social areas that connect inside and outside. One highlight of Gunnar Asplund’s summer home is the large, red tiled staircase next to the fireplace. It is located in the biggest room of the house "The Drawing Room", which separates this end of the house from the center that includes the dining room, kids' rooms, and at the opposite end, the kitchen and maid's room. The house is oriented strangely toward the evening light, and the exterior facades show attention to detail, unlike the uneven, rough ceilings inside. This reflects a priority on nature's impact on daily life. Tio Chair in Overseas Blue A hidden wine cellar in the floor by the open fireplace in the living room Asplund followed the functionalist principles by separating work and leisure areas. Stone pathways, bay views, and the surrounding forest create a beautiful contrast between the house and its natural surroundings. Icha Collection in Library Green in the kitchen View from one of the bedrooms Swedish sponge cake for fika (sockerkaka) "Hönsburen," a portable bamboo hallway Gunnar Asplund's work jacket, preserved on the living room wall Many of the furniture and built-in cabinets are designed by Gunnar Asplund himself. The lamp over the table in the living room is designed by Asplund for the Skandia Cinema in 1922. Breakfast in the living room Stennäs summer house fits into its surroundings. The design is warm, seamlessly integrated into the landscape, with a modern touch that respects the nature, following the Scandinavian design tradition.

FORBIDDEN, TIO CHAIR

FORBIDDEN, TIO CHAIR We are drawn to secrecy, to the forbidden, to things that should be neither said nor revealed. Words by Clara Block HaneWe are drawn to secrecy, to the forbidden, to things that should be neither said nor revealed. Words by Clara Block HaneIt is forbidden to look directly at a welding flame without a mask when the “Tio Chair” is being made, as it would damage your vision. Even so, just like when we see a welder working by the roadside, our gaze is drawn to the flame. Massproductions was founded with the “Tio Chair” in 2009. “Tio” is Swedish for “ten” and the name refers to the fact that the chair is made of 10 mm gauge steel wire that measures over 10 meters (14.378 to be precise). The steel wire is shaped by a computer-controlled bending machine and then undergoes various surface treatments, and welded together. The finished chair is made with zero waste. Of the Ten Commandments, eight are things we are forbidden from doing. Nevertheless: people have always broken laws and rules; otherwise progress would be impossible. And those who defy bans are not always punished – on the contrary, sometimes they are rewarded. Of the Ten Commandments, eight are things we are forbidden from doing. ROSE PETALS

MORTALITY, ROSE CHAIR Rose petals fall to the ground before withering, whilst their colour is still at its loveliest, their fragrance at its strongest. Why this waste of beauty?  Words by Clara Block Hane Rose petals fall to the ground before withering, whilst their colour is still at its loveliest, their fragrance at its strongest. Why this waste of beauty?  Words by Clara Block Hane  The “Rose Chair” from 2018 is composed of four flower petals – layer-glued and pressed to shape, made to precisely and accurately fill each other in, and assembled without a single screw.  Magnus had said: now we can afford to make something that might not sell in huge volumes. Chris had been pondering an idea for a chair for months, and suddenly it was clear. Two things can be said about Rose’s origins: she would not have been what she became without one of the world’s largest 3D printers. And while rose petals may be falling here in the exhibition, the hope is that the Rose Chair has qualities that give her a long or eternal life. Falling from the ceiling: 72 rose petals that could become 18 Rose Chairs – alive, but immortal. From the exhibition Sculptures from the factory

GRIDLOCK AND THE CONFIGURATOR

GRIDLOCK - A SOLID ASH SHELVING SYSTEM WORDS BY CHRIS MARTIN Order and organisation, grids calm us and reassure us. Or at least they have effect on me (hi, Chris Martin - co-founder of Massproductions and designer of Gridlock). Like an excel spreadsheet for the mind, Gridlock helps keep a lid on the madness of the world in which we currently are living. Order and organisation, grids calm us and reassure us. Or at least they have effect on me (hi, Chris Martin - co-founder of Massproductions and designer of Gridlock). Like an excel spreadsheet for the mind, Gridlock helps keep a lid on the madness of the world in which we currently are living. No its not boring or rigid - its safe and reassuring. Nobody is saying that you can’t go crazy, we are just saying that you can compartmentilise those outbursts into ordered segments on the wall. File it, store it, archive it or display it, Gridlock is the framework you need to get a cluttered life in order.A wall-mounted shelf can dominate a room, whilst at the same time, become an integrated part of the room’s architecture rather than a piece of furniture. Therefore, both detail and overall appearance play an important role. Utilize the Gridlock Configurator to tailor make your own Gridlock system, perfectly suited to your requirements. The cantilevered shelves lock in to the uprights with a specially designed fitting that holds them securely in place. So you make a "grid" and you "lock" the shelves in place. Gridlock - get it? Of course you do! Gridlock is no longer only an annoying traffic situation. A custom fitting detail in the vertical elements adjusts laterally for more leeway during assembly. " I wanted to create a shelving system entirely in wood. A friend had asked if I knew of such a system, which made me think that maybe something was missing for shelving customers.”- Chris MartinDesigner-In Chief When you have decided where to place your shelves, screw in four shelf screws into the corresponding inserts, the shelf then drops in at an angle with the back screws first. Then pull the front edge of the shelf downwards and it should drop onto the front screws with a satisfying "clunk-click" action. "It looks simple, but it took a few years to complete. Ensuring that all connections and details work, finding the right type of production, approving that the system can be easily assembled by customers and also accommodate features that will be added in the future."- CHRIS MARTIN,DESIGNER IN CHIEF The system can be used to form either strict or staggered grids with spacings according to your specific needs. Shelves come in two depths and you can even add a desk element for the ever more important home office solution. In the future we will be adding drawer units to the system. We are not holding back on this one. Gridlock is offered in a choice of 3 finishes, Natural, White or Black stained Ash. I thought it would be nice to have a wall mounted storage system made only with wooden panels, I hope you will agree - Magnus does (the other co-founder and CEO of Massproductions). No product is complete these days without some fancy schmancy app or web based thingy. So Gridlock is supported by an "online configurator" (works best if you say it with a robot voice). Using this allows you to plan and price your desired storage solution to your exact needs and available wall space. Actually, the configurator is not at all a gimmick, it’s a very useful tool to help you build your Gridlock shelving solution. Massproductions first showcased the system at the ”Gridlock” exhibition during 3DaysofDesign in Copenhagen starting June 7th.
